Journal Guide

The journal Infectio is the official scientific publication of the Colombian Association of Infectious Diseases (Asociación Colombiana de Infectología) (ACIN). It publishes four issues per year with articles related to the specialty, in areas of clinical, pharmacological or microbiological research. All the manuscripts are assessed by the Journal Editorial Committee after receiving the evaluations of two external reviewers who assess the articles in the form of a blind peer review.

The journal Infection is a peer-reviewed forum for the presentation and discussion of clinically relevant information on infectious diseases for readers and contributors from all over the world. Articles deal with etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in outpatient and inpatient setting. Public health issues of local, regional and international importance related to infectious diseases are covered along with progress and problems in hospital epidemiology. The main contents include original articles describing results of research projects; brief reports on new observations that enhance the knowledge of clinicians; and state-of-the-art reviews on topics relevant to physicians diagnosing or treating infectious diseases. Case reports describing new infectious etiologies or clinical manifestations are also offered. Infection adheres to a high standard of quality of all published material.

Infection and Immunity® publishes research related to infections caused by pathogenic bacteria, fungi, and parasites; molecular mechanisms of pathogenicity; interactions of virulence factors with host cells; innate and adaptive immunity to infection; development of vaccines against nonviral pathogens; and genomes of pathogenic bacteria. IAI also welcomes studies on the interaction of microbial communities with their host.

Infectious diseases constitute one of the main challenges to medical science in the coming century. The impressive development of molecular megatechnologies and of bioinformatics have greatly increased our knowledge of the evolution, transmission and pathogenicity of infectious diseases. Research has shown that host susceptibility to many infectious diseases has a genetic basis. Furthermore, much is now known on the molecular epidemiology, evolution and virulence of pathogenic agents, as well as their resistance to drugs, vaccines, and antibiotics. Equally, research on the genetics of disease vectors has greatly improved our understanding of their systematics, has increased our capacity to identify target populations for control or intervention, and has provided detailed information on the mechanisms of insecticide resistance.However, the genetics and evolutionary biology of hosts, pathogens and vectors have tended to develop as three separate fields of research. This artificial compartmentalisation is of concern due to our growing appreciation of the strong coevolutionary interactions among hosts, pathogens and vectors.Infection, Genetics and Evolution and its companion congress MEEGID (for Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics of Infectious Diseases) are the main forum acting for the cross-fertilization between evolutionary science and biomedical research on infectious diseases.Infection, Genetics and Evolution is the only journal that welcomes articles dealing with the genetics and evolutionary biology of hosts, pathogens and vectors, and coevolution processes among them in relation to infection and disease manifestation. All infectious models enter the scope of the journal, including pathogens of humans, animals and plants, either parasites, fungi, bacteria, viruses or prions. Infectious Disease Modelling is a peer-reviewed open access journal aiming to promote research working to interface mathematical modelling, infection disease data retrieval and analysis, and public health decision support. The journal welcomes original research contributing to the enhancement of this interface, and review articles of cutting edge methodologies motivated by and applicable to data collection and informatics for public health decision making and policy.
