Journal Guide

Mathematics in Computer Science (MCS) publishes high-quality original research papers on the development of theories and methods for computer and information sciences, the design, implementation, and analysis of algorithms and software tools for mathematical computation and reasoning, and the integration of mathematics and computer science for scientific and engineering applications. Insightful survey articles may be submitted for publication by invitation. As one of its distinct features, the journal publishes mainly special issues on carefully selected topics, reflecting the trends of research and development in the broad area of mathematics in computer science. Submission of proposals for special issues is welcome.

Mathematics of Control, Signals, and Systems (MCSS) publishes original and high-quality research papers concerned with mathematically rigorous system theoretic aspects of control and signal processing.

Ongoing developments in mechanical, aeronautical and civil engineering and major changes brought about by advances in instrumentation and associated computing power necessitate the application and integration of techniques involving systems theory, signal processing, control theory and statistics. Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing (MSSP) provides a forum for the discussion of research covering these disciplines with an emphasis not only on fundamental theoretical advances but also balancing theoretical and experimental demonstration of new methodologies and techniques.MSSP publishes refereed papers of the highest quality reflecting the activities and interests of workers in academic and industrial research and development establishments. Especially sought are papers that include both theoretical and experimental aspects, or that include theoretical material of high relevance to practical applications. This international journal provides a medium of communication between engineers and scientists engaged in research and development within the fields of knowledge embraced by IFToMM, the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science.The main topics are: • Design Theory and Methodology; • Haptics and Human-Machine-Interfaces; • Robotics, Mechatronics and Micro-Machines; • Mechanisms, Mechanical Transmissions and Machines; • Kinematics, Dynamics, and Control of Mechanical Systems;• Applications to Bioengineering and Molecular Chemistry.Methodologically, this includes theoretical, experimental, and/or historical approaches, along with their practical application, including education. Mechatronics is the synergistic combination of precision mechanical engineering, electronic control and systems thinking in the design of products and manufacturing processes. It relates to the design of systems, devices and products aimed at achieving an optimal balance between basic mechanical structure and its overall control. The purpose of this journal is to provide rapid publication of topical papers featuring practical developments in mechatronics. It will cover a wide range of application areas including consumer product design, instrumentation, manufacturing methods, computer integration and process and device control, and will attract a readership from across the industrial and academic research spectrum. Particular importance will be attached to aspects of innovation in mechatronics design philosophy which illustrate the benefits obtainable by an a priori integration of functionality with embedded microprocessor control. Founded in 1963, Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing (MBEC) continues to serve the biomedical engineering community, covering the entire spectrum of biomedical and clinical engineering. The journal presents exciting and vital experimental and theoretical developments in biomedical science and technology, and reports on advances in computer-based methodologies in these multidisciplinary subjects. The journal also incorporates new and evolving technologies including cellular engineering and molecular imaging. MBEC publishes original research articles as well as reviews and technical notes. Medical Image Analysis provides a forum for the dissemination of new research results in the field of medical and biological image analysis, with special emphasis on efforts related to the applications of computer vision, virtual reality and robotics to biomedical imaging problems. Memetic Computing features articles on high quality research in hybrid metaheuristics (including evolutionary hybrids) for optimization, control and design in continuous and discrete optimization domains. It goes beyond current search methodologies towards innovative research on the emergence of cultural artifacts such as game, trade and negotiation strategies and, more generally, rules of behavior as they apply to, for example, robotic, multi-agent and artificial life systems. Memetic Computing is an avenue for the latest results in natural computation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, operational research and natural sciences, which are combined in novel ways so as to transcend the intrinsic limitations of a single discipline. Potential authors are invited to submit original research articles for publication consideration at any time. Reviews and short research communications are also welcomed. Methods of Information in Medicine publishes international, peer-reviewed, original research articles, reviews, editorials, and letters to the editor. Founded in 1962, it is the oldest and longest running journal in its field. The focus of the journal is on methods in health informatics, including public health and consumer informatics. We welcome submissions describing novel scientific methods for structuring, integrating, analysing, storing and visualising information as well as methods for system design, implementation and evaluation.

Microprocessors and Microsystems: Embedded Hardware Design (MICPRO) is a journal covering all design and architectural aspects related to embedded systems hardware. It includes different embedded system hardware platforms ranging from custom hardware via reconfigurable systems and application specific processors to general purpose embedded processors. Special emphasis is put on novel complex embedded architectures, such as systems on chip (SoC), systems on a programmable/reconfigurable chip (SoPC) and multi-processors on a chip (MPoC) as well as their communication methods, such as network-on-chip (NoC).Design automation of such systems including methodologies, techniques and tools for their design as well as novel designs of hardware components fall within the scope of this journal. Recent advances in wireless technology have led to mobile computing, a new dimension in data communication and processing. Many predict a new emerging, gigantic market with millions of mobile users carrying small, battery-powered terminals equipped with wireless connection, and as a result, the way people use information resources is predicted to be radically transformed.Mobile Information Systems (MIS) presents visionary concepts and stimulating ideas in mobile information systems at both the theory and application levels. The objectives of the journal are to be a source for mobile information systems research and development, and to serve as an outlet for facilitating communication and networking among mobile information systems researchers, practitioners, and professionals across academics, government, industry and students. The journal is published multiple times a year, with the purpose of providing a forum for state-of-the-art development and research, as well as current innovative activities in mobile information systems. The main goal will be to provide timely dissemination of information.

The journal Mobile Networks and Applications reflects the emerging symbiosis of portable computers and wireless networks, addressing the convergence of mobility, computing and information organization, access and management. In its special issues, the journal places an equal emphasis on various areas of nomadic computing, data management, related software and hardware technologies, and mobile user services, alongside more ‘classical’ topics in wireless and mobile networking. The journal documents practical and theoretical results which make a fundamental contribution.

Non-profit Journal: MIC is operated as a non-profit journal and the journal is to a large extent based on voluntary contributions from the editors and reviewers. Any income generated by the journal from author contributions and sponsors are only meant to cover the costs associated with running the journal. From 2009 the MIC articles are available for free download on the Internet, and MIC loses the income source from subscriptions. To compensate for this loss of income, MIC currently requires an author contribution of NOK 1000 per published article. Each author will receive a complimentary issue of the printed edition of MIC where the article appears. The publication fee will be adjusted annually to balance out the costs of running the journal.Review: Each submitted article will initially be reviewed by the editor and/or the editorial secretary. If the article passes the initial review, it will be reviewed in a second step by the closest discipline editor and two internationally recognised experts in the field. All reviews in MIC are anonymous and the journal strives to avoid any conflict of interest in the review process.

Modelling and Simulation in Engineering aims at providing a forum for the discussion of formalisms, methodologies and simulation tools that are intended to support the new, broader interpretation of Engineering.
