Respiratory Physiology & Neurobiology publishes original articles and invited reviews concerning physiology and pathophysiology of respiration in its broadest sense. Although a special focus is on topics in neurobiology, high quality papers in respiratory molecular and cellular biology are also welcome, as are high-quality papers in traditional areas, such as mechanics of breathing; gas exchange and acid-base balance; respiration at rest and exercise; respiration in unusual conditions, like high or low pressure or changes of temperature, low ambient oxygen; embryonic and adult respiration; comparative respiratory physiology. To spread the scientific production in the areas of exercise and sport sciences, through the publication of results of original research and other document forms that contribute for the basic and applied knowledge in physical activity, exercise and sport in the scope of Biological Sciences and Medicine.

In the past decade research into skin pharmacology has developed dramatically with new and promising drugs and therapeutic concepts being introduced regularly. Recent examples include immunosuppressive topicals, and new strategies in the therapy of malignant melanoma and wound healing. New concepts have also been developed in traditional areas of skin therapy and skin care which have led to discussions of issues such as ‘cosmeceuticals’ in the United States, ‘quasi-drugs’ in Japan, and the 6th Amendment of the Cosmetic Regulation in the European Union. There are many open questions which reflect the importance of the subject and the need for a new international scientific forum where they can be discussed in extenso. Dermatologists, pharmaceutical chemists, pharmacologists, toxicologists, and others interested in the subject are invited to contribute to this exciting project and to submit their best research work for publication.

Sleep and Biological Rhythms is the official journal of the Japanese Society of Sleep Research, and publishes original research articles dealing with sleep and wakefulness, including biological rhythms. Papers in basic science, medicine and social science relating to sleep and/or biological rhythms will be considered for publication. Both members and non-members of the Japanese Society of Sleep Research are welcome to submit papers to the journal.

The journal Stress aims to provide scientists involved in basic stress research with the possibility of reading a more integrated view of the field. Peer reviewed papers, invited reviews and short communications will deal with interdisciplinary aspects of stress in terms of: the mechanisms of stressful stimulation, including within and between individuals; the physiological and behavioural responses to stress, and their regulation, in both the short and long term; adaptive mechanisms, coping strategies and the pathological consequences of stress.Stress will publish the latest developments in physiology, neurobiology, molecular biology, genetics research, immunology, and behavioural studies as they impact on the understanding of stress and its adverse consequences and their amelioration.Specific approaches may include transgenic animals, developmental/programming studies, electrophysiology, histochemistry, neurochemistry, neuropharmacology, neuroanatomy, endocrinology, autonomic physiology, immunology, chronic pain, ethological and other behavioural studies and clinical measures.

The Journal of Membrane Biology (JMB) publishes papers on the nature, structure, genesis and functions of biological membranes, and on the physics and chemistry of artificial membranes with a bearing on biomembranes. JMB offers articles dealing with plasma membranes; intracellular membranes; membrane organs; biomembrane models; and general considerations of two dimensional biological structures. Coverage includes chemical and physical structure; immunochemical properties and fingerprinting; colloid and surface chemistry; transport and secretory functions, including natural and artificial transport carrier systems, membrane channels, diffusion and pinocytosis; metabolic functions, membrane-bound enzyme systems, transduction; electrical phenomena in excitable membranes, nerve, muscle, receptors, etc; membrane–membrane interaction, intercellular communication; membrane synthesis and replication; cell regulatory functions of membranes and cybernetic aspects; membrane genetics; evolution and comparative aspects

Scope and subject areas The Journal of Physiology publishes full-length research papers and Rapid Reports of particularly important work that merits accelerated publication. Techniques for Physiology, introduced in 2008, are short papers aimed at disseminating new techniques for physiological research. Articles solicited by the Editorial Board include Perspectives, Symposium Reports and Topical Reviews, which highlight areas of special physiological interest, and Classical Perspectives describing how classic papers published in The Journal have influenced current research. Letters to the Editor and Journal Club articles are also published. All categories of papers are subjected to the same review procedure. Tree Physiology publishes both technical reviews and original research reports on all aspects of physiology of trees, other woody species, and species of arborescent growth forms (a full list of topics can be found in our Instructions to Authors). Tree Physiology is a refereed journal distributed internationally.Tree Physiology was founded in 1986 by Alfred Burdett and Rozanne Poulson of Heron Publishing. Under their management, the journal grew in both size and reputation to become one of the top-ranking journals in the field. Oxford Journals will continue to build on this solid foundation and ensure wider dissemination and further development of Tree Physiology.Scope of the JournalTree Physiology promotes research in a framework of hierarchically organized systems, measuring insight by the ability to link adjacent layers: thus, investigated tree physiology phenomenon should seek mechanistic explanation in finer-scale phenomena as well as seek significance in larger scale phenomena (Passioura 1979). A phenomenon not linked downscale is merely descriptive; an observation not linked upscale, might be trivial. Physiologists often refer qualitatively to processes at finer or coarser scale than the scale of their observation, and studies formally directed at three, or even two adjacent scales are rare. To emphasize the importance of relating mechanisms to coarser scale function, Tree Physiology will highlight papers doing so particularly well as Feature Papers.Tree Physiology welcomes submissions of manuscripts on research of non-tree woody and arborescent species (shrubs, vines, tree ferns, palms, bamboo). It invites submissions on new methods designed to improve estimates of quantities of structural components and flux of matter, energy and information relevant to the structure and the function of these species.Tree Physiology also welcomes those manuscripts on genomics demonstrating a clear link and relevance to tree physiology.Authors who prepared short, hard-hitting manuscripts are encouraged to submit them as Tree Physiology Letters that will be fast tracked through the review process with the help of the Editorial Review Board.

Trees - Structure and Function publishes original papers on the physiology, biochemistry, functional anatomy, structure and ecology of trees and other woody plants. Also presented are articles concerned with pathology and technological problems, when they contribute to the basic understanding of structure and function of trees. In addition to original papers and short communications, the journal publishes reviews on selected topics concerning the structure and function of trees. Vascular Pharmacology publishes papers, which contains results of all aspects of biology and pharmacology of the vascular system.Papers are encouraged in basic, translational and clinical aspects of Vascular Biology and Pharmacology, utilizing approaches ranging from molecular biology to integrative physiology.
