Matrix Biology publishes Regular Research Papers, Brief Reports, Mini Reviews, Landmark Essays, Full Length Reviews and Announcements.Regular Research PapersMatrix Biology will review for publication studies utilizing most scientific technologies including molecular biology, cell biology, immunochemistry, structural biology, computational biology, theoretical biology, and macromolecular chemistry where the subject is extra cellular matrix or is substantially related to matrix and its biological role. The journal will publish articles that are scientifically rigorous, complete within some logical framework, address molecular or cellular mechanisms, and present results that are timely and above average significance. Methods without application to a significant project and data on a new species or system similar to results already in the literature will not be accepted as a regular paper but may be suitable as a Short Note.Brief ReportsMatrix Biology will also review for publication brief reports that meet the same standards of quality and field of interest as regular papers but have a narrower scope and more focused interest. Examples are: DNA sequence from a new species of special interest where the sequence from another species is in the literature; a probe, assay or method that is particularly novel and useful; a new mutation that broadens understanding in a genetic disease where other mutations are known; and brief results of more than usual interest that will be followed by a more detailed study.Mini ReviewsThe aims of the reviews are to: (a) summarize the general concepts in the field; (b) provide a brief summary of the new information in the field; and (c) define unresolved questions and disagreements about currently available data. The mini-reviews will be of two different types, single mini-reviews that will summarize some new and important discovery in the field, and cluster mini-reviews on a topic that has been under investigation for some time. To ensure that the mini-reviews reflect a consensus to the scientists in the field, they will be published in one or two issues as series of articles consisting of (a) an Introductory Review by a Special Editor selected for the series; (b) two or more specialized reviews from two or more additional experts in the field and (c) Letters-to-the-Editor by additional experts in the field who will be invited to comment or volunteer to comment on specific issues raised in the reviews.Landmark EssaysFull Length ReviewsThese are invited comprehensive summaries and analyses of topics that have been under investigation for some time.AnnouncementsAnnouncements of national or international meetings may be published in Matrix Biology.

Articles submitted for this route will be checked by the Editor-in-Chief to determine if the criterion for fast publication has been met; if not, articles will be redirected to the normal route of category article.
Mechanisms of Ageing and Development is a multidisciplinary journal aimed at revealing the molecular, biochemical, and biological mechanisms that underlie the process of ageing and the development of age-associated disease. Emphasis is placed on investigations that delineate the contribution of (1) oxidative damage and/or cellular metabolism; (2) genetic instability; (3) telomere integrity; (4) mitochondrial function; (5) genetic programs. Not of interest are (1) studies on age changes that are purely descriptive and which do not address the underlying mechanisms; (2) psychological or social case studies and reports. Manuscripts in basic research areas relevant to the aims and scope are welcomed.Benefits to authorsWe also provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more. Mechanisms of Development is the Official Journal of The International Society of Developmental Biologists which supports the world-wide community of developmental biologists.Mechanisms of Development is an international journal whose purpose is to communicate contemporary studies in developmental biology in any system, including animals, plants and other models. These studies can focus on embryogenesis and/or post-embryonic development of tissues and organs. In addition, MOD publishes studies in which in vitro approaches are used to study mechanisms relevant to developmental biology; for example cell culture assays to study stem cell properties or basic cell biological mechanisms. Areas of particular interest include:Regulation of stem cell and progenitor maintenance, cell differentiation, and pattern formation. The developmental control of cell proliferation and death, and of tissue growth and size.Mechanisms of cell and tissue morphogenesis, including migration, shape and polarity, and the roles of physical forces in development.Evolution of developmental mechanisms.Studies can focus on molecular and/or cellular mechanisms, and we also welcome studies using modelling approaches that are firmly rooted in experimental data. The Editors are strongly committed to fair, transparent and rapid review. The criteria for publication are: (1) That the study is novel, interesting, and advances understanding of a developmental mechanism(s); (2) That the conclusions of the study are supported by the data. We ask reviewers not to request further experiments unless these are essential to support the principal conclusions. Reviewers will provide constructive comments to enable any improvements required to make the work suitable for publication. We normally allow only one round of significant revision.Mechanisms of Development does not publish descriptive studies of gene expression patterns and molecular screens; for submission of such studies see Gene Expression Patterns

Medical Molecular Morphology is an international forum for researchers in both basic and clinical medicine to present and discuss new research on the structural mechanisms and the processes of health and disease at the molecular level. The normal function and structures of molecules, organelles, cells, tissues, and organs determine their normal function. Disease is thus best understood in terms of structural changes in these levels of biological organization, especially in molecules and molecular interactions as well as the cellular localization of chemical components. Medical Molecular Morphology presents articles on basic or clinical research in the fields of cell biology, molecular biology, and medical, veterinary, and dental sciences using techniques for structural research such as electron microscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy, enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, radioautography, X-ray microanalysis, and in situ hybridization.
Medical Oncology (MO) communicates the results of clinical and experimental research in oncology and hematology, particularly with experimental therapeutics with the field of immunotherapy and chemotherapy. At the 2010 AAPM meeting, Journal Manager Penny Slattery and I, with the participation of Deputy Editors David Rogers and Andy Karellas, presented a 1 1/2 hour workshop on Writing and Reviewing Papers for Medical Physics. The power point slides that were used in the workshop are available here. A substantial audience turned out for the workshop, and the discussion that followed the power-point presentation was lively and insightful. The audience response to the workshop was one more indication of the enthusiasm of AAPM members for their journal, and the interest of medical physicists in general in the expansion of Medical Physics into new areas of imaging and oncology, and in the growth of the journal as the leading publication in medical physics worldwide.
The journal publishes timely, critical reviews of topics related to medicinal research, broadly defined, to which the authors have made significant contributions. Appropriate topics include, but are not limited to, the underlying pathophysiology of important diseases and disease vectors; therapeutic approaches to the treatment of various diseases; the properties of molecular targets for therapeutic agents; important new methodologies facilitating the search for therapies; genomics and proteomics; structure-activity correlations of drug series; the development of new imaging and diagnostic tools; drug metabolism; drug delivery; and chemical, pharmacological, pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and clinical characteristics of important drugs. Reviews are mainly solicited by the editors; however, voluntary contributions are also encouraged. In the latter case, potential authors are asked to contact the Editor-in-chief with an outline before beginning to write in order to avoid duplication of effort and to ensure suitability of the topic and the level of coverage.
