Learning: Research and Practice

Learning: Research and Practice aims to be the journal of choice for empirically supported learning theorisations that challenge the existing view. The intent is to support distinct and progressive research that responds to the problems of current educational practices and traditional views of learning. It seeks to publish articles that introduce innovative perspectives in due recognition of the intellectual history of the field, and grounded in empirically supported investigations of learning processes and outcomes. In recognising learning as a complex phenomenon, Learning welcomes scholarship of a variety of orientations and methodologies, drawing from, but not limited to, the psychological to the sociocultural, and the micro-genetic to the ecological.

Published Sections
Learning: Research and Practice accepts both established and emerging epistemic warranting methods, and welcomes theoretical investigations and empirical studies. The journal welcomes submissions for the following sections:
  • Regular Articles (6,000 words): articles of empirically supported studies on learning, or extended theoretical arguments.
  • Short Reports (3,000 words): reports of innovative current work at earlier stages of idea conceptualisation and/or empirical exploration that is of high value to learning researchers and practitioners.
  • Letters to the Editor (1,000 words): article commentaries, responses to commentaries, and/or discussions of general relevance.
  • Book Reviews (1,000 words): reviews to provide recommendations to the scholarly community.

The JLP was first published in 1969, under the title African Law Studies (issues 1-18) . From 2013, the JLP is in volume format (Volume 45 onwards). The Journal publishes three issues a year.

Accepted papers show a strong level of interdisciplinary content and clear exposition. Articles must be of interest to and understandable by a wide spectrum of scientists from related fields. Biomathematics Research
This section publishes high quality articles of novel, as well as established, mathematical and statistical approaches to biological hypotheses. Manuscripts should employ an interdisciplinary approach and should be of interest to a wide spectrum of scientists from related fields. Research from all sub-disciplines within the life sciences and sub-disciplines within mathematics and statistics will be considered.

Biomathematics Education
This section publishes high quality articles on the study of teaching and learning at the intersection of mathematics and biology. Manuscripts that address topics in undergraduate biomathematics education, including those that describe novel methods of design and implementation of innovative pedagogies, curricula, use of technology, and mechanisms of mentoring research are welcome. Manuscripts should contain either significant data and analysis to support the narrative or introduce novel tools or approaches for presentation of content.   Also welcome are studies with a focus on improving the learning and motivation of biology students in mathematics and mathematics students in biology.
 
Biomathematics Review
This section will publish high quality review articles that describe particular areas of mathematical biology research or education in novel ways. Review manuscripts should consist of a critical and constructive analysis of the literature in a specific field with the intent of helping to organize and evaluate the existing literature and provide insight into how recent literature is reshaping research in the area. It is also appropriate to include mention of software or instrumentation that is relevant to current research.

Each article published in Letters in Biomathematics is published Open Access, which means that, upon payment of an article publishing charge (APC), the article is freely and permanently available on Taylor & Francis Group's online platform http://www.tandfonline.com/.  There is no additional subscription fee, article pay-to-view fee or any other form of access fee; and no publication embargo is applied.

Life Writing, one of the leading journals in the field of biography and autobiography, has the unique and unusual policy of carrying both scholarly articles and critically informed personal narrative.
