ZooKeys is a peer-reviewed, open access, online and print, rapidly published journal, launched to support free exchange of ideas, data and information in all branches of Zoology. It is one of the most dynamic, innovative  and technologically advanced scholarly journals in its field. Zookeys was the first to implement semantic tagging and enhancements of content since the publication of its issue 50 in 2010. Currently, ZooKeys takes second place in the Index of Organism Names among the top 10 journals publishing the greatest number of new taxa in Zoology.

Aims and Scope Zoologica Scriptapublishes empirical. theoretical. and methodological papers. review articles and debate comments and replies dealing with zoological diversity. taxonomy and systematics in a phylogenetic context. Purely taxonomic papers (like species descriptions without putting these in a wider systematic context) will not be considered. and preference will be given to studies addresssing phylogeny. biogeography. and palaeontology using morphological. molecular and bioinformatic methods. Phylogeographic studies must have clear systematic/taxonomic conclusions to be considered.

The Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society publishes papers on systematic and evolutionary zoology and comparative, functional and other studies where relevant to these areas. Studies of extinct as well as living animals are included. Reviews are also published; these may be invited by the Editorial Board, but uninvited reviews may also be considered. The Zoological Journal also has a wide circulation amongst zoologists and although narrowly specialized papers are not excluded, potential authors should bear that readership in mind.
